The Man Behind The Music
A Documentary Film
Henry Lewy's musical career spanned the seminal, formative, and triumphant years of rock 'n roll. In the 1960s, with mentor Bones Howe, Henry worked with Johnny Rivers, Jackie Shannon, The Mamas and the Papas and the 5th Dimension. In the 1970's his friendship with Herb Alpert led him to A&M Records where he helped launch the careers of a string of musical legends including The Flying Burrito Brothers, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell. Henry and Joni eventually worked on 11 albums together over the course of 13 years, a partnership unsurpassed in the folk rock era.
In the 1980s, Henry continued to work with the musical legends of the time including Joan Baez, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Joan Armatrading and Jennifer Warrens to name just a few. Henry's singular goal as a producer and engineer - to help his artists realize their vision - was achieved again and again in a career that spanned fifty years. . Henry died April 8, 2006, but the genius of the man behind the music lives on in his recordings. Music that is studied, revered, and most of all, loved.
